WOMEN
Historically, Women Artists over the ages had long been ‘overlooked’ ……. ……but Kistler’s studio was open to all; Women artists’ flocked to his workshop. The 1930-40s was a very active period at the Lynton Kistler Studio . Kistler celebrated the works of many artists locally in Los Angeles, as well nationally….including ‘Women’! Helen Lundeberg had received great attention since her involvement in the FAP (Federal Arts Project of the WPA under Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s initiative); her murals and paintings had been installed in many federal sites. With Lundeberg, Grace Clements had an active role as a muralist, illustrator and painter. These drawings by Clements were brought to me by Mr. Kistler. In addition to this one lithograph and unsigned drawings, a humorous cartoon is an example of her bold attitude and irreverence!
