Tobey C Moss Gallery has a focus on 20th Century American Prints, Drawings, Paintings and Sculpture: Especially: Modernism, 1920s-80s; Five Centuries of Prints & Drawings, Latin American Artists and Women Artists

[dropcap]After[/dropcap] forty years in the same location in which we opened in 1978, we recall our first show “Selected Prints” including etchings by John Sloan and Armin Hansen – from the East to the West coasts of the United States. As a member of the IFPDA/International Fine Print Dealers Association, our print inventory is extensive, but we also offer drawings, watercolors, assemblages, collages, paintings, photographs and sculptures. We favor American artists, particularly those active in California since the 1920s. …through today. They include the printmakers launched in lithography with Lynton Kistler during the ’30s-’50s and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in the 1960s and beyond.

[dropcap]Abstraction[/dropcap] is a special direction in the Gallery, in parallel with social criticism, kineticism, works by women artists and works by Mexican/Latin and African American artists. In addition, we offer occasional fine works by European, Asian artists.

[dropcap]Many[/dropcap] collections are presented in our Gallery including those of Jules Engel, Leonard Edmondson, Werner Drewes, Jean Charlot, Stanton Macdonald Wright, Clinton Adams, Nicholas P. (Nick) Brigante, Peter Krasnow, John Altoon, Gordon Wagner and printmakers launched in lithography with Lynton Kistler during the ’30s-’50s and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in the 1960s and beyond

[dropcap]We[/dropcap] also present works by Ruth Asawa, Dorr Bothwell, Elizabeth Catlett, Lee Chesney, William Dole, Lorser Feitelson, Oskar Fischinger, Ynez Johnston, John Paul Jones, Matusumi (Mike) Kanemitsu, Basil Langton, Helen Lundeberg, George Herms, Rico Lebrun, David P. Levine, Leopoldo Mendez, Carlos Merida, Lee Mullican, Pablo O’Higgins, Arnoldo Pomodoro, Betye Saar, Palmer Schoppe, Joyce Treiman, Howard Warshaw, June Wayne, Emerson Woelffer, Tyrus Wong …and the list goes on.

[dropcap]We[/dropcap] work with many institutions and individual collectors as they explore and acquire works of art from our particular area of California modernism. Our special mission is to confirm the art historical base of California. The contemporary art ‘explosion’ in southern California, now internationally acclaimed, was rooted and nurtured by the artists and the art that we present at our Gallery.
