CONFIDENCE EVERLASTING
Race, racial identity and racial stereotypes pervade our current society side-by-side with community supports, economic ‘development’ and federal stipends. I grew up in 1930’s Chicago – amidst immigrants from bewildered Europe and immigrants from the rooted slavery of the South; immigrants from sweat shops in New York and immigrants from political persecution. I was surrounded by people of many creeds, races and economic levels. I’ve seen the ‘lost’ single mother and the confused senior, the hardworking student, husband and business owner… heartened by sweetness, hope and encouragement … discouraged by ignorance, poverty and racial discrimination.
