1937-46 B.A. and M.A at University of California, Berkeley interspersed with traveling.
1943 One-person show, DeYoung Museum/San Francisco Fine Arts Museums.
1947 Travels to Yucatan, Mexico.
1947-49 Teaches at U.C. Berkeley, California.
Travels in Europe during vacation.
1950-51 Bunce, Johnson, Mundt exhibition; MOMA, New York (Penthouse).
1951 Receives Huntington Hartford Foundation Grant; moves to Los Angeles.
1952 Receives John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship; moves to Italy and Paris for six months.
1954/55 Teaches etching at Colorado Springs fine Arts Center; works with Emerson Woelffer and Robert Motherwell.
1955 Awarded Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant.
1956 One-person exhibition, California Palace/Legion of Honor, San Francisco, California.
1957 Receives second Huntington Hartford Foundation Grant; moves to Santa Barbara, California.
One-person exhibition; Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
1960 Marries John Berry.
1964-65 John Berry receives Fulbright Grant; Johnson and Berry spend the next year traveling in India, Nepal, Cambodia and Japan.
1965 Johnson creates series at Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Los Angeles, California
1967 One-person exhibition, San Francisco, California Museum of (Modern) Art.
1972 Johnson and Berry spend six months in Mexico and Great Britain.
1976 Awarded National Endowment for the Arts Grant.
1977 One-person exhibition; Mitsukoshi Gallery Tokyo, Japan.
1978 Retrospective exhibition at Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Arts Cornell University.
1982 Artist-in-resident at Fullerton College, California with exhibition
