" Lou Jacobs, Jr. grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BA in industrial design. After serving as a topographic model maker during World War II, he worked as a designer and then moved to California to study photojournalism at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. In 1949/1950, as a 'project', he created a series of portraits with a view camera: the 'Artists of Los Angeles'. Capturing these artists in their own studios is a document on many levels. The series includes Edward Weston, Man Ray, Rico Lebrun, Jules Engel, Paul Landacre, Oskar Fischinger, Lorser Feitelson, Helen Lundeberg, Stanton Macdonald Wright, Richard Neutra, William Brice and yet others.
